7 sampling
1. Mktga sales promotion technique in which customers and prospects are offered a free sample of a product2. Opsthe selection of a small proportion of a set of items being studied, from which valid inferences about the whole set or population can be made. Sampling makes it possible to obtain valid research results when it is impracticable to survey the whole population. The size of the sample needed for valid results depends on a number of factors, including the uniformity of the population being studied and the level of accuracy required. The technique is based on the laws of probability, and a number of different sampling methods can be used, including random sampling and nonrandom sampling. Specialized applications of sampling include activity sampling, acceptance sampling, and attribute sampling.
